Ergo is a nonprofit that publishes long-form philosophical lecture courses with leading scholars. Everything we publish is freely available, without ads or paywalls.

Philosophy deals with important, enduring questions, but there is a wide gap between professional philosophy and public life. Academic work tends to stay within academic circles. Most online content favors engagement over depth. A semester-long course with a great professor is one of the best ways to understand a subject, but it isn't accessible to most people.

Ergo is an attempt to recreate some of that experience and make it widely available. Most of our lectures are grouped into courses that run four to eight hours. They are long enough to move beyond summaries and into real substance, but short enough to watch in a few sittings.

We define philosophy broadly. Our lectures cover philosophers from the ancient world to the present, but we are equally interested in big-picture questions across the arts and sciences. To us, philosophy is any disciplined attempt to understand a domain's assumptions, its limits, and its place within a broader whole — or, as Wilfrid Sellars put it, "how things in the broadest possible sense of the term hang together."
